1. My favorite "African" food so far is definitively South African: Bunny Chow - that's curry in a bread bowl. I've also enjoyed Madumbis too, which is a type of yam that tastes like a potato.

2. So far, my favorite place would be the Drakensberg mountains. Really, I only know South Africa, and not that well. It would be nice to get out in the country more, and see that landscape, which is beautiful.

3. Hmmm. So much to choose from. Well, if you are into NVC, you know that they use the giraffe as a metaphor for non-violent communication. The giraffe has the largest heart of any land animal. But really, all the animals are cool. I've really enjoyed the monkeys that show up every morning around the cottage. They can grasp things with their hands and feet, which is pretty cool. I also enjoy listening to the hardidars, who have this trippy cascading call when they all get together... okay, my vote goes to the monkeys, 'cause I was born in the year of the monkey!

4. I am still pretty ignorant of African music, although it was cool to talk with Nichelin the other day... I saw an interview with Johnny Clegg last night, and I thought that was pretty cool - you'll remember his from his Jaluka days - he was the "white Zulu." And, there is some cool Africa hip-hop on late at night, and so it's been interesting to learn about that. African culture is very strong, and their musical traditions are among the strongest in the world.

5. Zulu. It's the one African language I've had the most exposure too, and I dig the 'click.'
